The Standard-Distance Triathlon Log

A 16-week training log for your standard-distance race.

  • 134 pages
  • 7 × 10 in paperback
  • 16-week block
  • Undated

Built for a sixteen-week race block.

Sixteen weeks with the shape of the block already in place: loading weeks, lighter weeks, a taper and race week. Each week carries a plan page, daily entries with room for a morning and an afternoon session, and a review that sets what you planned against what you did.

This log is for everything around the numbers: how the session felt, what you ate, how you slept, and what you would change next week.

What's inside

Everything in the 134 pages.

  • Sixteen week blocks. A plan page to set your targets, four pages of daily entries, a full page for the long Sunday session, and a review page to close the week.
  • A phase map. One page showing how all sixteen weeks fit together, so you can see where you are in the build rather than guessing.
  • Week at a glance. A shade-in chart on every Sunday page, scaled for standard-distance training, with totals by discipline and a running total across the block.
  • Baseline tests with room for five rounds. Record critical swim speed, functional threshold power, run threshold, resting heart rate and weight, then test again as the block goes on.
  • Training zones you rewrite. Three dated zone tables, because your zones move every time you test.
  • A block spread every four weeks. A habit tracker with eighteen rows to fill in yourself and a tick box for every day, facing a page that sets out the four weeks ahead: what phase they are, what you want from them, and the sessions you will protect whatever else slips.
  • A races page. The whole season in one place, with each race marked A, B or C, so the plan knows which ones to taper for.
  • A niggle log. One page for the small aches, with a column for what you were doing when it started, so a pattern shows up before it becomes an injury.
  • A race day kit list and a race morning plan. Everything to pack, split by discipline, with blank rows for what the list misses, and an hour by hour plan for the morning itself.
  • A six-page race review. Splits and places first, then the week before, the swim and T1, the bike and T2, the run, and what you take into the next block.
  • Separate pages for B and C races, plus routes and best times, swim technique notes, and bike fit notes.
  • A glossary and a sources page. Every piece of shorthand explained in plain words, and the tests and structure credited to where they came from.

What this log is, and is not

This log holds a plan rather than supplying one. The sessions come from your coach, a published plan or your own experience, and the pages here are built to record them, test them against what you actually did, and adjust.

It is undated, so the block starts whenever your race does. Write in your own dates and work backwards from race day.

For the 1500 m swim, 40 km bike and 10 km run. If you are building towards a longer race, there is a twenty-week middle-distance edition.
